If you're planning to broadcast live as a DJ through SonicPanel, this guide will help you get started. Whether you're using VirtualDJ, SAM Broadcaster, RadioBOSS, or another encoder, setting things up correctly is key to going live without issues.
Step 1: Make Sure AutoDJ is Running
Before connecting as a DJ, your station’s AutoDJ must be online. This ensures the system can smoothly transition between the AutoDJ and your live stream.
Step 2: Choose and Install Your Streaming Software
Install any streaming or broadcasting program of your choice. Popular options include:
- VirtualDJ
- SAM Broadcaster
- RadioBOSS
- BUTT (Broadcast Using This Tool)
- AltaCast
- Winamp with DSP Plugin
These tools allow you to input your DJ account details and start streaming easily.
Step 3: Configure Your DJ Account Settings
Once your software is installed, you’ll need to enter the streaming details provided in your SonicPanel DJ account.
Use the following format in your encoder settings:
- Protocol/Server Type: Select Shoutcast v1 or Shoutcast server
- Password: Use your DJ password only (do not include a username)
- Port: Enter the DJ port assigned to you
- Username: Leave this field empty
- Bitrate & Format: Adjust based on your desired audio quality (e.g., MP3 at 128kbps)
Important: Even if your radio server uses IceCast or Shoutcast v2, you must select Shoutcast v1 or Shoutcast in your streaming software.
Example Setup
Let’s say your DJ account has these credentials:
- Password: 1234
- Port: 6699
Your encoder should be set up like this:
- Protocol: Shoutcast v1
- Password: 1234
- Port: 6699
- Username: Leave blank
- Bitrate: As needed for your stream
Step 4: Start Streaming
Click Connect or Start Streaming in your broadcasting program. If the settings are correct and the AutoDJ is active, your live stream will begin right away.
Troubleshooting Tips
- Always use Shoutcast v1 or Shoutcast as the streaming protocol
- Never include a username — only the password and port are required
- Double-check your AutoDJ is online before going live
- If you have issues, send a screenshot of your encoder settings to support for faster help
